The Score Fighting Series Comes to Sarnia on December 3rd

Canadians Alessio and Fraser to headline event

Tweet this release: http://thesco.re/s4P5Rd

TORONTO, November 22nd, 2011 – Score Media Inc. (TSX: SCR) today announces that The Score Fighting Series (SFS) will be partnering with Avant-Guard Promotions for the first professional MMA event in the history of Sarnia, Ontario. The card will take place Saturday, December 3rd, 2011 at the RBC Centre and is scheduled for ten fights.

Two marquee match-ups have officially been confirmed with MMA veterans John Alessio and Ryan Healy slated to lock horns and Sarnia’s John Fraser set to take on submission master Travis Reddinger. The entire card will be streamed live on theScore.com with commentary by The Score Fighting Series’ broadcast team of Mauro Ranallo and Robin Black. The fights will also be replayed on theScore Television Network.

"The city of Sarnia has been waiting a long time to host an MMA card and it just wouldn’t be possible to put on such an amazing event without the help of The Score Fighting Series," says Woodrow James, CEO, Avant-Guard Promotions. “I am thrilled that fans from across the country and around the world will be able to see our homegrown athletes in action. December 3rd is a date you want to mark on your calendar.”

“We couldn’t be happier to be a part of this event. It offers a solid mix of veterans and rising stars in evenly matched fights,” says Brendan Fyfe, Director, The Score Fighting Series. “A number of guys on the card have fought in the Series before but they were always in someone else’s backyard. Fighters like John Fraser always come to entertain and it will be amazing to see him compete in front of a hometown crowd.”

MMA fans will be able to see two of the best fighters in the world not currently signed to a major U.S. promotion in the Healy-Alessio match-up. Always exciting to watch and incredibly well-rounded, Alessio’s record of 33-14 includes ten victories by TKO/KO and 15 via submission. Healy (19-9-1) has competed in Strikeforce and the WEC and is a member of Team Quest where he trains under MMA legend Matt Lindland and UFC® star Chael Sonnen. Like his twin brother Pat, Healy has solid skills on the ground but prefers to use his grappling prowess to keep fights standing.

Born and raised in Sarnia, John Fraser (9-3) has gone undefeated in all five of his SFS appearances and will look to make it six in a row at the expense of Travis Reddinger. Known for his relentless attacking style and dominant wrestling, Fraser will look to pressure his opponent until he sees an opening that could end Reddinger’s night. Reddinger (16-3) will be looking to spoil the local hero’s homecoming and has the ground game to match Fraser’s with over 60% of his victories coming by submission.

Tickets start at $40 and are available at the RBC Centre box office and online at www.rbccentresarnia.com.

theScore Launches New TV Show, THE PROJECT, Featuring Two Sports Fans, One Bucket List and Several Confused Athletes

New program follows two die-hard sports fans and “general nobodies” as they track down their sports heroes

Tweet this release: http://bit.ly/uyQlog

TORONTO, October 26th, 2011 – Score Media Inc. (TSX: SCR), today announces the launch of THE PROJECT – where Laurence Payne and Ethan Cole, two sports fans and “general nobodies” track down their sports heroes. They don’t do handshakes and sit down interviews – they’ve created a sports bucket list and they’re crossing off their insane ideas one by one.

“THE PROJECT is the epitome of sports hero fanaticism at its best,” says Colin McRae, Director, Creative Content and Brand Integration, theScore. “It takes an inside look at everything you ever wanted to know about your favourite retired athletes through the wacky journey of two die-hard, persistent fans.”

Why ask Otis Nixon about the 1992 World Series bunt when you could reenact it with him? Why talk to Buster Douglas about boxing when you could just pay him to fight you? Confused about what direction to take your life in? Go and ask the Ultimate Warrior, the all knowing wrestler and life philosopher what to do. That’s what Laurence and Ethan did. They make the impossible possible and try to avoid killing each other while doing it. Raw, gritty, and nothing but real, THE PROJECT blurs the line between fan and athlete and puts lost legends in situations you’ve never seen before.

Tune in November 8th at 11pm ET for the outrageous premiere of THE PROJECT. To get a glimpse of some of Ethan and Laurence’s adventures click here: www.thisistheproject.com.

Hornbuckle and Zaromskis to Battle at Score Fighting Series Hamilton Show

TORONTO, September 30th, 2011 – A showdown between two high octane welterweights has been added as the co-main event to the Score Fighting Series October card in Hamilton, Ontario. Seasoned veteran Dan “The Handler” Hornbuckle will face off against current DREAM welterweight champion Marius Zaromskis. In a previously announced match-up, Canadian MMA icon Joe “El Dirte” Doerksen takes on Bellator veteran Brett Cooper in the other half of the co- main event.

Hornbuckle (22-5) is making his debut in the Score Fighting Series but has appeared multiple times on theScore TV network in various MMA promotions including Hardcore Championship Fighting, Bodog Fight and Bellator. Known for his trademark “Warhawk” hairstyle and highlight reel finishes, Hornbuckle rose to international prominence in 2009 with wins over Akihiro Gono and Nick Thompson in Sengoku. His headkick KO over Gono has been a staple of MMA highlight reels for the past two years. Hornbuckle also made the finals of Bellator’s Season Two Welterweight Tournament before succumbing to current champion Ben Askren.

Ironically, Zaromskis’ (15-6) breakthrough performance also came in Japan with 2009′s KO of the Year against Jason High in the finals of DREAM’s Welterweight Grand Prix. This will be Zaromskis’ second appearance in the Score Fighting Series after a close decision loss to Jordan Mein in June. Since then Zaromskis returned to Japan and successfully defeated welterweight challenger Eiji Ishikawa in DREAM. He is still considered one of the sport’s most exciting and dangerous fighters and holds notable victories over Hayato Sakurai, Ross Pointon and Kazushi Sakuraba.

One match-up was also lost from the card.  A proposed bout between Wagnney Fabiano and PRIDE veteran Luiz “Buscape” Firmino was scrapped when Fabiano suffered an injury during training.  Fabiano has asked for the match to be moved to the next Score Fighting Series event.

Tickets for the October 14th event at Hamilton Place Theatre will range from $30 to $65 and are on sale now through ticketmaster.ca and the Copps Coliseum box office.   The event will be shown live on theScore.com and air on theScore Television Network via tape delay.

TORONTO, September 21st, 2011 – Score Media Inc. (TSX: SCR) today announces that the main event is now set for theScore Fighting Series (SFS) October 14th card at the Hamilton Place Theatre. Canada’s most experienced mixed martial artist Joe “El Dirte” Doerksen will take on hard-hitting Bellator veteran Brett Cooper in a middleweight showdown. Two other fights have also been approved with Lyndon Whitlock set to take on Tristan Johnson and Eric Moon facing Rory McDonell.

Doerksen (47-15) has competed in many of the world’s biggest MMA organizations and is a nine-time UFC® veteran. He is coming off a win over Luigi Fioravanti in a slugfest at the June 10th SFS event in Mississauga.

Cooper (14-7) is one of the middleweight division’s most exciting young fighters and is the definition of a knockout artist with his last nine wins coming via KO or TKO. He trains out of California’s Reign Training Center alongside Mark Munoz, Jake Ellenberger, Emanuel Newton, Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Krzysztof Soszynski. Fresh off a victory over Valdir Araujo on Saturday’s Bellator 50 event, Cooper knows he will be in tough against Doerksen but will look to press the action. "Joe is a really experienced veteran with good skills,” says Cooper. “But I am still going to go in there and look for the finish like I always do."

The Whitlock-Johnson match-up has many buzzing about a potential “Fight of the Night” candidate. Johnson fights out of Halifax and is renowned for his slick boxing skills. He is coming off a hard fought victory over Whitlock’s Iron Tiger teammate Will Romero at the last Score Fighting Series event.  Whitlock (5-1) is on a three fight win streak where none of his opponents have made it out of the first round. His last victory came via TKO over Jason McKay by virtue of a series of brutal leg kicks. A Hamilton native, Whitlock has competed on the city’s two previous MMA cards and is looking to keep his perfect home turf record intact.

One fighter will go above .500 and one will go below when Eric “The Monster” Moon (6-6) meets Rory McDonell (5-5). Moon fights out of Detroit’s Mash Fight Team and has won his last two fights. McDonell fights out of Pura BJJ in Hamilton and Mississauga’s Evolution MMA. All five of his victories have come via submission.

Tickets for the October 14th event at Hamilton Place Theatre will range from $30 to $65 and are on sale now through ticketmaster.ca and the Copps Coliseum box office.   The event will be shown live on theScore.com and air on theScore Television Network via tape delay.
