Mein vs. Zaromskis set as Main Event for theScore Fighting Series June 10th Event at The Hershey Centre
Tags:theScore Fighting Series
Tweet this release: http://bit.ly/jLeIRn
TORONTO, May 18th, 2011 – Score Media Inc. (TSX: SCR) today announces theScore Fighting Series has confirmed the main event for the June 10th card at The Hershey Centre in Mississauga. Top Canadian prospect Jordan Mein will get the toughest challenge of his young career when he faces Dream Welterweight Champion Marius Zaromskis.
Mein, (21-7-0) has built his reputation on taking tough fights and is on a path that many believe will land him in the UFC. He is coming off a devastating TKO victory over seasoned veteran Joe ‘Diesel’ Riggs and a well-deserved decision win against UFC veteran Josh Burkman. Zaromskis will be a true test to see whether Mein is ready for the octagon. Best known for his highlight reel head kick knockouts, Zaromskis is considered one of the sport’s most exciting and most dangerous fighters. He is hoping to continue his winning streak against Mein, after successfully defending his Dream Welterweight Title against MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba in his last bout. Zaromskis’ notable victories include Hayato Sakurai, Ross Pointon and 2009′s KO of the Year against Jason High in the finals of Dream’s Welterweight Grand Prix.
Mein accepted the proposed match-up without hesitation and expressed an admiration for Zaromskis’ fan-friendly style. “I pride myself on being entertaining and putting on a good show for the crowd,” says Mein. “I know Marius will give me a great fight and test my abilities.”
Also added to the card is a Lightweight battle between Toronto’s Jorge Britto and Saskatoon’s Kurt Southern. Britto (12-7-1) lost a close decision to Jason Young in April in an incredible back and forth battle. The win helped propel Young into a UFC contract which Britto has used for motivation in his training.
Britto will be facing one of Canada’s top lightweights when he meets Southern (8-3-0) in the cage. Southern is coming off a victory against top Canadian lightweight Brad Cardinal and has only been to a decision once in his professional career. Fans can anticipate an exciting match-up, as both men are looking to use this fight as a statement on their way up the MMA ladder.

theScore Fighting Series Announces Key Bouts for June 10th MMA Event at The Hershey Centre
TORONTO, May 10th, 2011 – Score Media Inc. (TSX: SCR) today announces that three key match-ups for theScore Fighting Series card on June 10th at The Hershey Centre have been made official. Oshawa’s Antonio Carvalho will take on UFC alumnus Doug Evans, Josh Hill will battle Roland Delorme in a tilt between two of Canada’s top bantamweights and Joe Doerksen will face Luigi Fioravanti in a clash of MMA veterans.
Fioravanti (22-8) fights out of Orlando, Florida with the highly regarded American Top Team. He has competed inside the UFC’s octagon eight times and is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Fioravanti has won five of his last six fights but Joe "El Dirte" Doerksen believes he is ready for whatever Fioravanti brings.
"He’s tough and talented," says Doerksen. ”I respect him as a fighter, but I’m looking to ruin his night."
This will be Doerksen’s first time back in theScore Fighting Series since his win over Shawn Marchand at CFC 5 in Winnipeg on June 4th, 2010.
Fans can expect fireworks when Carvalho and Evans battle inside the cage. Carvalho is one of the featherweight division’s most dynamic strikers and his work is well known to fans of theScore Fighting Series, with his last win coming roughly a year ago against Juan Barrantes. Carvalho is widely regarded as one of the top 145 pound fighters in the world not currently under contract with a major organization, but Anchorage, Alaska’s Evans was more than willing to accept the challenge.
"I’m very excited to fight Antonio," stated Evans. "He’s very well rounded and it’s going to be a battle." Evans is known for bringing the action to his opponent. The UFC veteran recently competed in theScore Fighting Series against Tristan Johnson and gained considerable acclaim for his highly entertaining fight against Thierry Quenneville.
Two of Canada’s top bantamweight prospects, Hill and Delorme, will also face off in the cage. The undefeated Hill, who recently beat highly touted prospect Diego Wilson in a theScore Fighting Series event, is ready to take the next step to proving he is the top bantamweight in Canada. Delorme has a different idea. He has taken out top bantamweights Sean Quinn and Remi Morvan and is more than ready to square off against Hill.
In addition to these main card match-ups, two undercard bouts have been announced. One of Canada’s top Muay-Thai fighters, Woodbridge’s Alex Ricci will be taking on Adrenaline MMA’s Pete Brown in a lightweight bout expected to be a slugfest.
Also added to the card is a battle between two young undefeated prospects as Brampton’s Tyler Hardcastle faces Michael Reilly of Rockland, Ontario.

Score Media posts second quarter profit
By Chris Powell
Original article: http://bit.ly/kVRJQv
Driven in part by increased consumer adoption of its digital offerings, Score Media saw second quarter increases in revenue, EBITDA and net income.
The Toronto sports media company saw its quarterly revenues increase $1.1 million to $11.1 million, while EBITDA increased $0.1 million to $1.1 million. The company’s net income for the quarter was $200,000, compared with a $200,000 loss the year prior.
The second quarter has historically been the weakest for Score Media, reflecting what the company describes as “trends in sports media advertising.” The third quarter ending May 31 has traditionally been the strongest, since it coincides with both the NBA and NHL playoffs.
“We’re executing really well across all of our business lines,” Tom Hearne, chief financial officer for the sports media company, told Marketing. “We’ve continued to see very good strength in the TV business, and that’s complemented incredibly well by the rapid growth we’re seeing in our digital media business.”
Although specialty TV channel, The Score remains Score Media’s flagship property with an estimated 6.8 million subscribers – a figure that grows about 4% per year – Hearne said that the line between its traditional and digital media offering is becoming increasingly blurred.
Where digital media made little contribution to Score Media’s bottom line only two years ago, Hearne said that it now accounts for between 15% and 20% of the company’s revenues on a quarterly basis.
“We consider ourselves a digital media company now,” said Hearne. “TV is one aspect of how we present [our content], but it’s a screen just like any other. We’ve got the laptop screen, the smartphone screen; it’s just another opportunity for us to bring viewers information and entertainment and make money from it.
“We’re growing to be a full-fledged digital media company, and we’ve put a lot of emphasis and effort on how we can continue to grow our mobile and tablet applications as well as our web site.”
In January, Score Media made its popular ScoreMobile app available for the Windows Phone platform. Score Media boasts that the app is the leading sports app in both BlackBerry App World and Windows Marketplace and is also among the top 10 in both iTunes and the Android Market.
Elsewhere, TheScore.com garnered 1.4 million unique visitors in January, a 124% increase over the previous year, while the digital group displayed nearly 100 million pages of content, a 100% increase from the year prior.
